I have ten credit cards on my record. Seven of those ten cards are now closed. On the credit report, some say closed/never late and others say paid/never late. At the end of each of these records, it says, closed at consumer’s request. How can I change the paid to closed so that my report is consistent and if I can do this, can I get paid accounts off my report faster?
As long as you have that never late notation, it does not make any notable difference to future creditors if the account says, paid or closed. This is because all of your accounts end with closed by consumer’s request. This points out, to future creditors, that even those paid/never late accounts are officially closed. You need not worry about these account notations having any ill affects on your credit report.
It is true that closed account notations stay on a credit report for a seven-year cycle, but so do any closed accounts—even ones like yours that say paid/never late. And it is not normally possible to change accurate information once it is entered in a credit report. A credit report stands as an historical record of credit-related activity and, therefore, must remain as accurate and true as possible. But, as has been stated, changing your paid notations to closed is not necessary in your case anyway.
From what you have stated, it seems that you have been working at building up good credit—paying your accounts diligently, closing ones you do not use anymore, and keeping track of your credit report information.
